Dr. Osnat Hakimi joined Beta-O2 in June 2017 as head of the biology department. Dr. Hakimi was previously a post-doctoral scientist at the University of Oxford for over five years, where her work focused on biomaterials for musculoskeletal tissue regeneration, cell-material interactions and extracellular matrix proteomics. During this period, she successfully developed a novel synthetic, bio-mimetic and degradable patch for rotator cuff repair, now patented and entering clinical trials. Most recently, Dr. Hakimi was a CAPES post-doctoral fellow at the Federal University of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, investigating the effect of moderate and extreme exercise using proteomics and metabolomics, in collaboration with the Brazilian Olympic Board. Her research focus included the handling, analysis and interpretation of ‘omics’ data.
Dr. Hakimi earned a B.Sc. (Hons) in Biochemistry at Birkbeck college, University of London, and a Ph.D. in tissue engineering at Queen Mary, University of London. Her Ph.D. thesis, a comparative study of silkworm and spider silks as scaffolds for cell guidance and neo-tissue formation, involved cell and molecular biology, biomaterials characterization, and advanced microscopy techniques.
