Prof. Paul de Vos,

Prof. Paul de Vos, Ph.D

Prof. Paul de Vos has a strong research focus on the development of immunoisolating capsules for preventing rejection of pancreatic islets. He has co-authored more than 140 research papers and edited a book and several special journal issues on the subject. The de Vos lab is combining immunological techniques with physicochemical approaches in order to understand the requirements biomaterials have to meet in order to be accepted by the recipient’s immune system. The de Vos lab is not only designing new and better means of immunoisolation but also studying the etiology and pathogenesis of failure of (non)encapsulated islet grafts since the philosophy of the team headed by Prof. de Vos is that understanding the factors contributing to success and failure is key to success.
